The Story

Seven years of disruption. A voice that stayed.

Jeremy Grove rebuilt a life in South Carolina after college: baseball, work, and eventually a daughter. In March 2017 federal agents arrested him at home. His daughter was about eighteen months old.

On January 17, 2019 he was sentenced to sixty months under a federal mandatory minimum for marijuana trafficking. He served most of that time in camp, including about fourteen months in the SHU during COVID. Counting nearly three years of pretrial detention, the case cost him roughly seven years.

He was released in January 2023 and returned to the Charleston area to be near his daughter. While incarcerated he wrote the novel Legalized and kept a blog alive through mailed pages that an editor transcribed. Those years did not end his voice. They trained it.

Advocacy

Free the people still inside.

Jeremy’s public work centers on nonviolent cannabis and drug prisoners serving long federal sentences, the stigma that follows returning citizens, and the hypocrisy of a War on Drugs that never matched the science of medicine.

Free nonviolent drug prisoners

Support people still serving long federal time for cannabis and other nonviolent drug offenses. Clemency, resentencing, and reentry are not abstractions. They are neighbors, parents, and friends.

End the stigma

Returning citizens deserve work, housing, and dignity. A federal marijuana conviction should not erase a life after the sentence is done.

Cannabis as medicine

End the hypocrisy that treats plant medicine as a federal crisis while states and patients already know better.

Amplify voices still inside

Carry the names and stories of people who cannot speak for themselves at the microphone. At a White House Last Prisoner Project event, Jeremy has lifted up others still serving, including Edwin Rubis and Pedro Moreno.
